History
Banco di Caribe’s voyage started in May of 1973 in a small single office building in the heart of our vibrant economic center in Punda, Curaçao. Sharing a common dream and bringing diverse skills to the table, Mr. Eduardo de Kort and Mr. Phillip de Jongh joined forces and embarked on a journey to create a bank for the local people, managed by locals with local investments.
At first the bank’s team consisted of 6 individuals, but by 1975 our workforce tripled its capacity and relocated to our current location at Schottegatweg Oost 205. The new office offered better accessibility and more parking spaces, but due to our growth as a company, expansion was necessary in order to accommodate everyone. This led to the construction of the current high-rise building which was completed in 1988.
The voyage which started in 1973 adjusted course and set sail towards other islands in the region and by 1983 BdC opened a branch on our sister island Aruba. In 1987 Bonaire joined our family and finally in November of 2007 we welcomed St. Maarten aboard.
By the end of 2005 the bank was acquired and in 2009 under the new shareholder the bank became part of the Ennia Group. In June 2022 the United Group became the new owner of the bank. Headquartered in the Netherlands, United Group, is an independent provider of finance and trust services with a truly personal approach. As part of United Group, the bank will continue to bring its innovative banking solutions to its customers.
Since opening our doors in 1973 we focused on developing our staff professionally and personally. Considered as an employer of choice within our markets and 330 plus strong, it fills us with pride to say that our employees are the driving force behind our success.
With pride in our history we sail forth, together, strong and dedicated to the further development of our economy while keeping our eyes firmly fixed on the future.
